Astrology & Geometry: Scorpio is considered to be loyal, passionate, determined, and dedicated. Scorpio is the eighth house of the Western Zodiac, representing shared resources, sex, and death. The eighth house is represented by octagonal shapes and an eight-pointed star surrounding the hound’s head.

The Dog is the eleventh sign of the Eastern Zodiac and applies to those born in 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 & 2018. In Celtic tree astrology, the Hound is associated with the Vine sign for those born September 2- September 29.

Zoology: Domestic dogs are the decedents of wild wolves, and have been domesticated by humans for at least 14,000 years. The inter-relationship between humans and dogs predates the recorded domestication of sheep, goats, pigs or other animals currently kept for agricultural purposes. Hounds have been bred to aid humans in hunting and have excellent sense of smell and hearing to aid in the detection of prey.

Herbalism: Star Anise seeds are the equivalent of catnip for dogs. The scent can make dogs frisky, blissful and energetic.* Star Anise is native to Vietnam, China and North America. The Latin name for the genus is “illicium” which means “enticing,” likely due to its enticing licorice aroma. The plant makes its seed pods in beautiful star shapes, often eight-sided.

Magic: Star Anise has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years, and has been synthesized into a modern anti-viral treatment for influenza.* It has anti-fungal, antibacterial, and anti-oxidant properties and is commonly used as a culinary spice.
