Astrology & Geometry: Geminis are said to be intelligent, curious, restless, and lively. Gemini is the third house in the Western Zodiac, which is the house of learning, communication, and family relations. The third house is represented by three triangular lines around the head of the woodpecker and the three triangles surrounding it.

Zoology: The woodpecker is a unique bird in that they dig holes into trees. They have evolved traits such as strong necks, sharp beaks, strong tails for support and sharp clawed toes for grasping on to tree trunks. They eat the insects found within the tree bark and make their nests by boaring holes through the tree trunk large enough for the bird and its chicks to dwell in.

Folklore: The Woodpecker is associated with Thor, Mars, Ares, Indra and Pan. It’s thought to predict rain and thunder in folklore across Europe and North America.

Herbalism & Botany: Beech leaves have been used as a treatment for skin disorders.* Beech bark is very sensitive and does not heal once it is scarred or cut. This also causes Beech trees to form eye-shaped scars from self- pruning smaller branches. The Beech tree is also one of few tree species that can have purple leaves. Beech was one of the first trees to be used by Germanic peoples as writing paper, and thin slices were bound into books. In German, Dutch and Swedish the word for “book” is derived from their word for “beech.”
